On March 20, 2020 the Government of Canada released the Canada’s Plan to Mobilize Industry to fight COVID-19 which “focuses on domestic capacity building, innovative solutions, and procurement of essential supplies.” All levels of innovative industry from large scale manufacturers to hobbyists are being challenged to “develop research-based solutions, technologies, and products that can address a variety of COVID-19 issues.” (
Northumberland Makers together with a network of makers throughout Northumberland County, have plugged-in their 3D printers and Sewing machines and have picked-up their scissors to produce essential supplies for first responders which are in short supply.
“Northumberland Makers is proud to be playing an essential role in the production and assembly of 3D Printed Face Shields. Dozens of local Makers have been contributing by printing the Face Shields on their 3D printers and sewing the elastic headbands. On Sunday April 12th, Northumberland Makers participated by assembling over 100 masks which are to be delivered. The parts for another 400+ masks are working their way through the Alliance pipeline and will be assembled soon.” Phil Mandryk – President, Northumberland Makers (). “We would appreciate any local Makers interested in lending support to go to the “Join” page at Northumberland.io Producer Alliance (
